PEFR.ZIP contains the following:

 - PEFR.COM
 - PEFR.DAT
 - PEFR.ICN
 - PEFR.TXT

This is a simple programme which will display an expected PEFR, from tables (Nunn AJ, Gregg I. Br Med J 1989; 198: 1068-1070), and also calculate the proportions of Best PEFR vs Expected and Current PEFR vs Best.

The programme bases its data on tables, as per inputted sex, age and height. It will round the height (input as cm or feet/inches) off to the following values: 152cm, 160cm, 168cm, 175cm, 183cm, 191cm. Similarly, age will be rounded off to the nearest 5 years between 15 and 70 years. Any data well outside these ranges may result in unreliable output.

Installation is easy. Put all files the same directory. This is a simple DOS programme that will run either under Application Manager (see appendix), or under DOS or DOS-based menu programmes (I run mine under HDM via MAXDOS, although the memory requirements are minimal). A 200LX compatible icon is included. This programme is optimised for the HP200LX, but will run 'as is' on a desktop, appearing rather low-res in comparison.

Use of the programme is relatively self explanatory. Input data as instructed at each prompt. ESCAPE or DELETE keys can be used to re-input data or end programme. You do not need to use ENTER after each entry, unless value is shorter than that prompted. The programme screens for incorrectly entered data and has some constraints on data ranges, as an error trapping mechanism. Be wary that although I have screened its performance, the programme may allow some nonsensical data through, or may even become confused if you purposefully try to enter garbage!

All care has been taken in the writing of this programme, but the author cannot accept any responsibility for any errors, or for the subsequent clinical application of programme output.

This programme can be distributed freely, but please do so in its original ZIPPED format containing all four components as listed above.

Any comments or questions will be happily received at the above email address. (In fact, even simple aknowledgement that this programme has been used will help motivate me to update this and work on other projects).

APPENDIX: Installation on the HPLX.

! Input the following data as required:

 Name: PEFR
 Path: a:\pefr\pefr.com|
