Patrol Mission

P-61 crews spent most of
their time on routine patrols
over Allied and contested air-
space. The crews slept during the
day and had 2 night on alert, 2
nights off. One P-61 would be air-
bourne while another waited on the
runway. Missions were flown between
sunset and sunrise. During the late
afternoon while prepping for the
night's outing, crews wore dark
red goggles to acclimate their eyes
to the dark.
ORDERS: It's your first real mis-
sion in a brand-new P-61A. Use
your radar (map) to search for and
attack any contacts approaching
your airfield.
