PRELUDE TO SICILY

On the 5th of July 1943, the 82nd Fighter
Group (P-38s) was involved in a dogfight
in the Catania-Gerbini area of Sicily
that cost the Regia Aeronautica dearly.
Flying Macchi C202 fighters, the Italian
pilots included Franco Lucchini (26
victories) and Leonardo Ferruli (22
victories). Each had been flying since
1940, but both were killed by the
firepower of the P-38s.

MISSION

American P-38s have been reported on a
fighter sweep. Defend Sicily in what
will be a pure dogfight. Try to avoid
head-on passes against the superbly armed
Americans.
