RUDEL AT NOWO MIRGOROD

In February 1944, Hans Ulrich Rudel was
flying missions in South Russia. On
occasion he would encounter Il-2
Sturmoviks, and although at a slight
speed disadvantage, would attempt to
catch them if possible to stop their tank
busting.
In this instance, Rudel had not found any
tanks, and then encountered some "Iron
Gustavs" escorted by Laggs and
Airacobras. Undaunted, he pressed the
attack and at long range added a
Sturmovik to his list of kills. He then
began to weave and evade back toward his
squadron; the Russian fighter pilots
assumed Rudel's fighter protection was
near and broke off the attack.

MISSION

Intercept the attacking Sturmoviks before
they can bomb and strafe the defending
German 11th Panzer Division. Consider
the mission a victory if you can destroy
all 3 of the Sturmoviks without losing
your own plane.

NOTES

Snow would be appropriate for this
mission.
