THE KURSK OFFENSIVE

The beginning of Kursk on 5 July 1943
started with an abortive airstrike by the
Russians on Luftwaffe airfields,
resulting in large Russian losses. The
Stukas and Hs129s in the first German air
assaults flew as many as five and six
sorties. In the Belgorod sector, the 4th
Panzer Army struck northward, and over
two thousand aircraft clashed overhead as
one of the greatest battles of all time
began. One of the elite units opposing
the Germans in the air was the 8th Guards
Fighter Air Division.

MISSION

As a pilot of a brand new Yak 9-D in the
8th Guards Fighter Air Division, you
must stop the Fascist antitank planes
from destroying the Sixth Tank Army in
the southern edge of the Kursk salient.

NOTES

Use SUNSET.PAC for the first sortie of
the day, or use normal daylight for any
of the succeeding sorties.
